Non-metric weight system still used in the US and certain Commonwealth countries including the UK, Canada, etc.
Grains, ounces and pounds are the primary units. Logically enough there are 7000 grains or 16 ounces to one pound. The name is a corruption of Old French - avoir-de-pois, or possessing weight.
