Night mode.
A pre-programmed exposure and shooting mode built into many cameras.
Such modes are designed to help novice photographers with taking photographs at night. Typically night mode will set the camera to use flash with a long shutter time - slow shutter sync. This allows background scenes to show through, but does mean that photos taken in this mode should be done using a tripod to avoid blurring of the background. Commonly indicated on cameras by a night mode icon.
cf. automatic exposure (AE), flash, slow sync, tripod.
