Resize.

1. To alter the pixel dimensions of a digital image. In other words, the pixel count of the image is increased (“res up” or “rez up”) or decreased (“res down” or “rez down”). Such resizing ideally involves some form of interpolation for maximum quality.

cf. interpolation, pixel, pixel density.

2. To alter the stated output pixel density of a digital image. Such resizing does not affect the pixel count - it just affects the physical size of the final image when it’s output to screen or paper.

cf. pixel, pixel density, resolution.

Entry last updated 2002-05-05. Term 1030 of 1487.

Previous term: resin coated paper.

Next term: resolution.
