Novice. Usually with implications of being a naive, inexperienced and uninformed novice.

A term beloved of cantankerous oldtimers but not used so much anymore. The computer-jargon term “newbie” is essentially equivalent and has more currency these days. From the Latin tiro, meaning “young soldier” or “recruit.”
