Centre-weighted averaging metering.
A light metering system used by many cameras with internal light meters in the 60s and 70s and still available on many SLRs today. This system simply averages the exposure across the entire image frame, but gives added emphasis (weight) to the central part of the image. Commonly indicated on cameras by a centre-weighted averaging icon.
cf. spot metering, evaluative metering, matrix metering, partial metering.
