Dioptric adjustment.

Compensating lenses used with camera viewfinders.

These lenses let people who normally wear glasses look through the viewfinder without their spectacles on. Some cameras include adjustable lens systems within the viewfinder itself, permitting dioptic adjustment without the need for clip-on lenses.

cf. dioptre, reverse Galilean, viewfinder.

Entry last updated 2002-04-03. Term 361 of 1487.

Previous term: dioptre.

Next term: dip and dunk.
