Element.

1. An individual piece of glass which makes up one component of a camera lens. Camera lenses are nearly always built up of multiple such elements.

2. Chemical elements. The fundamental material which makes up the universe - oxygen (O), carbon (C), silicon (Si), gold (Au), silver (Ag), etc. Elements are substances which cannot be broken down by chemical processes and each are identified by a unique one to three letter chemical symbol.
