Fluorescent.
A material which fluoresces. That is, a material which glows - produces light - when exposed to non-visible electromagnetic radiation, particularly ultraviolet energy.
Fluorescent powder, for example, is used to coat the interior of fluorescent tube lamps. This powder produces white light when excited by the UV energy produced by the tube. Fluorescent paints can also be used with blacklight (colloquial name for type of UV energy) for special effects.
cf. blacklight, electromagnetic radiation, fluorescent lamp, light, optical brightener, ultraviolet.
