Hi All.
Just got hold of a quite nice Asahi Pentax Spotmatic F but there might be a problem with the light meter.
The meter only reads the battery state (as ok) and won't move from this upper position. With the battery out the needle returns to the central position ok.
It's got a nice Asahi SMC Takumar 1:1.8 55mm lens fitted.
Any help or ideas would be most welcome.
Thanks.
Rob.

Does the battery test okay?

As I recall, there are some complications using classic Pentax Spotmatics these days, as the original mercury chemistry batteries are no longer available. You can substitute it with a zinc-air. I think B&H sell the right type.

Hi.
I hope I'm using the reply facility correctly?

Thanks for answering my question.
The battery does test ok, both in the camera (showing towards the top of the light meter) and on a voltage test meter.
The battery I'm using is a HD625 "button cell" which was in an old Petri SLR I had.
As I said in my post, the needle refuses to operate as a light meter, but returns to the centre if the battery is removed.
Thanks.

Reply is working fine!

Well, all I can say is you're best off trying a brand new battery that's known to work with Spotmatics. If that works, great. If it doesn't, then you're going to need some repairs, and that's probably not going to be cost-effective on a camera as old as a Spotmatic.

Yep, think I'll take your advice and try a new battery, fingers crossed.
Many thanks.

Yeah I suggest try a new battery first. I had a similar problem a while back and that did the trick for me. Also has an issue with the battery on my segway too, it wasn't my day that day. But heck they are so cool though, I suggest you look for a segway for sale, you won't be disappointed. Good luck.
