Hi,
I was told by my local camera shop that I can't use Infra Red film in my EOS 1000fN. The reason being that the camera uses an infra red light, within the film compartment, to determine when the film has been wound on the correct distance to the next frame.
Obviously, such an infra red light would fog an infra red film.
Can anyone confirm or deny this for me please?

Many thanks.
Ken.

Okay, managed to find the answer to my own question with a little more hunting around. It's in the PhotoNotes compendium of articles.

As it happens the EOS 1000fN does NOT use infra red for measuring the distance the film is wound on, and so is compatible with infra red photography.

However there is another problem caused by a cutout in the pressure plate on the camera back that affects certain films (those that lack an anti-halation layer).

Those looking for more information should read the article at the following URL: http://photonotes.org/articles/ir-myths/

Regards,
Ken.

Yep. I owned one of these cameras at one point and can verify that they don't use IR counters.

Do you know if an 3000v/K2/Kiss Lite would?

I've never tried an EOS 3000V/Rebel K2/Kiss Lite. However, the manual for that camera simply says "Infrared film cannot be used with this camera", which is exactly what it says in all the other EOS cameras with IR diodes for film sensing. Given that, I suspect it's not the best candidate camera for high speed infrared film.

But the only way to tell if your camera model has the issue, and how bad it has it, is to try it.

Hi, the 3000V is my first camera and am hoping to try out the Konica 750 IR with it this weekend. My question is: where can I get specialist films like this in London? Jessops don't appear to carry it and i'm trying to find a decent photography store that isn't Jessops.

Well, Jessops are like PC World or Dixons. They don't cater to professionals, quite simply, so they aren't going to carry speciality products like infrared film.

Have you tried Calumet? They have two or three locations in London, and do carry pro stuff. They aren't cheap, though. Sadly London has nothing like B&H or Adorama in NYC - cheap discount prices, mostly honest and knowledgeable staff and a huge selection.

The Rebel K2 (with all three of its other names) does have IR sensors, but it only fogs the sprocket holes. I shot multiple rolls EIR and all the pictures came out fine.
